It always seemed a bit harsh to me, that Christ instantly cursed this tree for bearing no fruit. I’ve realized the fig tree could represent many things. It could be a symbol of one who provides good promises, yet has no intention of delivering. Or, it could be someone who is a hypocrite and doesn't want to change. Maybe it's someone who was meant for more, and knows it, but instead choose things that  harm others. Overall, I believe that this little fig tree shows us that looks, or empty actions, will not save us in the last day. It is who we have become that will determine our proximity to our Savior. "By their fruits, ye shall know them"-Matt 7:20
